Introducing TAMEKO - A New Textile Brand Grounded in Quiet Beauty
We’re thrilled to welcome TAMEKO to the SLOW community, a thoughtful new brand with a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, materiality, and the quiet rituals of everyday life. Founded by longtime collaborators Dominika and Chim, TAMEKO is a natural evolution of their creative partnership and shared vision: to create home textiles that feel as meaningful as they are beautiful.
We chatted with Dominika to learn more about the story behind TAMEKO its name, its values, and what’s next for the brand.
Born from Intention
TAMEKO was born out of a desire to offer something more considered in the world of home textiles pieces that transcend trend and speak to the quiet beauty of the everyday. Drawing on their backgrounds in production, design, and branding, Dominika and Chim saw a space for a textile brand that could be both tactile and timeless. “We wanted to make something that felt quietly luxurious,” they share, “not just in durability, but in emotional value too.”
A Name with Layers
The story behind the name TAMEKO is as layered as the brand itself. Initially a working title MA-TE-KO, derived from Massimo Tekstil Kollection, it slowly evolved into something softer and more resonant. “It began slipping into our conversations almost unintentionally,” they say. Eventually, TAMEKO just felt right. While technically made-up, the name has taken on personal significance, with unexpected links to Japanese history and language. “It carries both personal origin and quiet symbolism,” they explain—an apt reflection of the brand’s ethos.
A Philosophy of Slowness
At the heart of TAMEKO lies a deep respect for materials, process, and the people behind the craft. “We believe beauty should be part of everyday life,” the founders say. “Not reserved for special occasions.” Their work celebrates slowness and thoughtful living elevating the small rituals of home, like making the bed or setting the table.
Their creative process begins with the fabric itself exploring how materials behave, age, and feel in the hand. Techniques like yarn-dyeing, loom finishes, and handwoven textures bring a quiet richness to each piece. “It’s never about embellishment,” they explain, “but about celebrating the nature of the material itself.”
Built to Last, In Every Sense
Sustainability is not an afterthought for TAMEKO it’s intrinsic to how they work. Natural fibres, small-scale production, and partnerships with skilled makers ensure that every decision supports longevity and respect for both people and planet. “We’re always asking how we can do better—consume less, waste less, and make products that truly last.”
Upcoming Collaborations
As part of their upcoming debut at 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen, TAMEKO will unveil two exciting new collections. The first, in collaboration with OEO Studio, introduces wellness-focused pieces including cotton towels, silk accessories, and calming eye masks. Later this year, the range will expand to include yoga-inspired textiles.
The second collection, developed with Norm Architects, brings together soft minimalism and tactile harmony through cushions, bed throws, and kimonos originally designed for a design hotel project. Both collaborations reflect TAMEKO’s dedication to sensory depth, refined simplicity, and considered design.
A Natural Fit for SLOW
TAMEKO’s arrival at SLOW feels like a seamless alignment of values. “The SLOW community represents so much of what we stand for intentionality, integrity, and a deep respect for craftsmanship,” the founders share. “Our pieces aren’t meant to be loud or attention-seeking. They’re meant to be lived with, loved, and passed down.”
As they continue to grow thoughtfully and expand their offerings, TAMEKO invites us to slow down, choose with care, and find beauty in the everyday.
