The Art of Warmth: At Home with Sarah Harris Gould

The Art of Warmth: At Home with Sarah Harris Gould

We recently sat down with Sarah Harris Gould, co-founder of Harris Tapper, to discuss topics such as home, family, and the journey of creating a space that genuinely feels lived in.

When Sarah and her family stepped into their new home for the first time, it brought with it an immediate sense of calm. The feeling was quiet and grounded — a stillness that lingered and hinted at possibility. Rather than rushing to complete the interiors, Sarah chose to let the space unfold slowly and with intention. Every piece introduced, every material layered, has been carefully considered — not only for its aesthetic value but for how it supports the way her family lives.

One of the most significant transformations has taken place in what is now Sarah’s Media room. Originally a bare concrete basement, it has been completely reimagined as a warm, cocoon-like retreat — a space designed for comfort, connection, and quiet. Sarah’s vision was to create a room that enveloped rather than echoed. Drawing on a tonal palette of browns and burgundies, she layered the space with richly textured fabrics from Pierre Frey and Clarence House, grounding the room with Aalto paint Source and tactile finishes. At the heart of it all is the Muse — a deep brown modular sofa by Ellison Studios. Sculptural and generous in form, it brings the entire room together and speaks to her love of pieces that are both considered and lived-in.

She describes SLOW’s curation as instinctive — an edit that prioritises timelessness and function over trend. The pieces she selected for the room add structure and depth without overwhelming the space, helping shape not just how it looks but how it’s used day to day. Flexibility, she says, is always key — a value that echoes throughout the rest of the home.

Sarah’s approach to interiors is guided more by intuition than by design movements. With two young children, practicality naturally takes precedence, but never at the expense of beauty or craftsmanship. The focus is less on perfection, more on ease — creating a space that adapts to the rhythms of family life while allowing room for stillness and reflection.

The home continues to evolve, shifting with the needs of its occupants. As the children grow and routines change, the layout flexes accordingly — but the core remains the same: a desire for warmth, functionality, and thoughtful design. The result is a space that reflects the present moment, while making room for what’s still to come.

Even the more unexpected pieces — like a jet black Himalayan goat hair armchair gifted by Sarah’s parents as a wedding present — have found their place. Bold in texture, yet quietly integrated, it adds a touch of playfulness that balances the more refined elements of the room. These kinds of details, layered over time, tell the story of a home that’s been thoughtfully built rather than perfectly planned.

And while the home already feels deeply personal, there are still a few pieces on the horizon. High on Sarah’s wishlist is the Spina Lounge Chair by Louise Roe in smoked oak — a sculptural, minimalist design she’s drawn to for its quiet strength and enduring appeal.

But for Sarah, the real joy lies in the process: the slow, intentional act of curating a space that grows with you. One that reflects not just how life looks, but how it feels.
